About Debi Lewis - Director

I began studying yoga in 1985 and began to teach at the Yoga Center of Jackson in 1992. In these over 20 years, I have studied many forms of yoga.

From Iyengar, I learned discipline and the foundation of postural alignment. From Astanga I experienced an energetic, affirmation of my own strength, and the key to flexibility. From Kripalu, I found myself able to move into the physical with compassion and deeper awareness.

In 1998 I became certified in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, a healing modality originating from Kripalu. I am currently studying regularly with master instructor Rod Stryker and am completing his certification in ParaYoga. The focus of this method is in customizing the practice for our individual needs, including transformational breathwork and meditation, grounded in a strong acknowledgment of Divine Presence in all of life.

For many years, I have been a student of the Enneagram, particularly in the Riso-Hudson training. The Enneagram is a tool for personal and spiritual growth, and I am beginning to combine this study of personality with the study of yoga to bring about healing and Self discovery.

I see how all of my experiences, being the eldest daughter of a Methodist minister, being part of a Sufi spiritual group, my lifelong interest and study (my B.A. is in American Studies-with lots of music, art, philosophy offshoots, from USM) in mysticism, psychology and religion, have enriched my ability to share these powerful teachings with you.
